Here We Go Again

Excellent piece at Lenin’s Tomb on the Soviet Union’s 1979 military (the Soviets were already present in many other respects) invasion of Afghanistan. The parallels to our own Afghan idiocy just keep on piling up…

So, in Viet Nam we knew we could do it better than the French. And in Afghanistan we know we can do better than the Russians. Trouble is we don't know what better is and, as Pete Seeger says, the Big Fool says to push on.
