And it really did start in America with Benjamin Bache and his American Aurora newspaper when Democrats were called Republicans and Benny could put Fox News to shame because he never did tell a flat out lie but he was darn good at what he did. He was so good at shading the truth that that Federalist President Adams passed the Alien and Sedition Acts preventing Benny from saying anything about Adams until Benny's untimely death while under indictment by the Federalists. And George Washington really did confess to a murder that he did commit and Adams was much worse than Nixon in that he wanted to be regarded as the King of America. But I'm afraid that Chuck was right as rain this time around but I'm beginning to think the Republicans don't want the job either. So maybe Rick Santorum will pair up with Sara Palin and by the second term the Democrats might really pull something good off - no more worries about health care except for the local chain gang if you don't pay for your insurance.

On the other hand, I'm thinking that it's already been decided that the Chinese have a right to live well too and as Joe Bageant says, there are only so many goodies to go around and we're going to just have to get used to living with less opulence. And maybe that's a good thing but for the hell we're all going to have to pay for the good times we've had during our lifetimes.

So maybe we're going to have to learn to just all get along if we can avoid fascism. And that's a big if. Oh, what the heck, what's the use in worrying about it. I mean, you can even yell theater at a crowded fire anymore without it being immediately squashed by the media.
